Went to By Jo Modern Thai Bistro a few weeks ago. We went to By Jo Modern Thai Bistro on a Friday for lunch and the place was empty. Thankfully there is one waiter on a standby.
By Jo Modern Thai Bistro is located at Paskal Hypersquare, and the place has a very modern, futuristic Southeast Asian café feel. The interior is dominated by silver metal, grey tones, glass and sleek lighting, giving it an almost slightly sci-fi vibe. It’s definitely not your typical colourful Thai restaurant, and I actually like how clean and contemporary the whole space feels.
🌶️ Creamy Tom Yum — 98K
This was pretty good! The broth is spicy, sour and creamy, with a decent amount of prawns and squid. Seafood was fresh, juicy and thankfully no fishy smell. The black noodles make it look extra dramatic too 😂. My only complaint: the noodles themselves were a little too salty.

🍳 Crab Meat Fried Rice — 70K
The fried rice was tasty and nicely seasoned, with egg, bean sprouts, pickled onions and a sunny-side-up egg on top. But honestly, I didn’t get much crab flavour from it. So if you’re ordering this specifically for the crab, manage your expectations.
This was my favourite! Surprisingly comforting and probably the dish I’d order again. It has that slightly Chinese-fusion feel — savoury, garlicky and very comfort food-ish, with prawns, squid and baby kailan. The seafood was cooked really well too: tender, juicy and not fishy at all. Rice was not included so if you want rice you need to order one.
🍧 QQ Ball
We also tried their QQ Ball for dessert — this one isn’t listed on the menu, so I’m not sure if it’s a regular item or a special/available-on-the-day thing. It’s basically chewy colourful balls served with coconut milk and crushed ice. Simple, refreshing and a nice way to end the meal.
Overall, Thai By Jo is worth a try if you’re around Paskal. Nothing was particularly mind-blowing, but the food was generally enjoyable, portions were decent and prices are quite reasonable. And that sautéed kailan? Definitely the little surprise winner of our lunch. 😂
