If you are planning a holiday in North Devon this year, there are many activities that are guaranteed to keep you and your family engaged. This magical region of the UK offers some of the best natural scenery in the British Isles, and whatever your passion, there will be a few events that are not to be missed.
- The Ilfracombe Art Trail - This year the Art Trail is held on 11th and 12th of May, offering you a unique opportunity to browse and purchase local art items. The local arts and crafts community open their homes, galleries and studios to all and sundry, and this open house policy allows a unique insight into the local artists and their work. Highlights include attending workshops on all aspects of arts & crafts and listening to a selection of live music played by local musicians. A must for lovers of the arts, and a great way to spend a couple of days in sleepy Ilfracombe. If you have yet to book your holiday accommodation, check out luxury North Devon holiday cottage rentals that can be found online, which are very affordable.
- Babbacombe Model Village - Experience a 4-acre site that houses an amazing model village with some incredible detail, and this unique display is open all year round and does get very busy between May and September. Located in Hampton Avenue, Torquay, you will feel like a giant as you peer into tiny windows in what must be one of the best modal village displays in the world, with a West Country fishing village that depicts life in a Cornish fishing community. The latest addition in Celebrity Mansion, where you and your friends can see how many celebrities you can spot, and an elegant tea room provides local delicacies that you really should sample.

There are several mysteries set up over the weekend, and you can play detective by studying the evidence and presenting your findings, and this well-thought out adventure weekend is ideal for those who love a good mystery. In true Agatha Christie fashion, you can use all your investigative skill to try and track down the murderer, but beware, there are a few red herrings!
- Surfing - The West Country has some of the best surfing beaches in the UK, and whether you are an expert or would like to try this addictive water sport, North Devon is the place to go. There is a big surfing community at Ilfracombe, where you can book lessons from the resident expert, and with a range of boards for sale or rent, surfing is a hobby to experience if you love the ocean.
