Lunar New Year or as I usually call it since I am a Chinese Indonesian, Chinese New Year is fast approaching. While it is traditional to wear red, some people just not a fan of the bold color and other people feel like they just don't look good in red, therefore in this post I listed colors other than red to wear this Chinese New Year.

Lunar New Year is just around the corner so here I listed patterns to wear for Lunar New Year. While solid is always a safe option, wearing patterns for Lunar New Year is so much more fun and it also hides a lot of flaws like wrinkles on your clothes; it can also help distract people from the shape of your body so you don't get 'eh, you got fatter?' questions from noisy aunties.
First up is floral. It is a no brainer for Chinese/Lunar New Year. Since Chinese New Year usually symbolizes the end of winter, flower resembles new beginnings and so wearing floral will definitely gives you plus points from your mom and aunties.
Second is Toile or Chinoiserie. What is the difference? Honestly I'm not sure but Google said toile is a fabric that originates in France and which pattern depicts a scene (e.g. a landscape that often involves figures); chinoiserie is similar but has a decidedly Asian (specifically Chinese) flare - patterns of which are usually consists of pavilions, birds, and floral motifs.
For reference, my blue dress is categorized as Toile while my red blouse is categorized as Chinoiserie.
Last but surely not least is the no fail batik pattern. I live in Indonesia so it is very common to have cheongsams in batik pattern. Batik is an Indonesian technique of wax-resist dyeing applied to a cloth. Batik is originated from the island of Java, Indonesia. Batik is made either by drawing dots and lines of the resist with a spouted tool called canting, or by printing the resist with a copper stamp called a cap. I personally love wearing my CNY outfit in batik pattern. It is such a beautiful way to blend both of my identity as an Indonesian Chinese.

Year of Earth Dog for this Snake right here seems to be a good one. Although I'm not one to believe in horoscopes either it be the normal zodiac or Chinese zodiacs, it does cheer me up to read about nice things 2018 has in store for me.
It feels weird this year since I'm on the other end of the equation. Instead of receiving hong baos (red envelopes with money in it), last weekend I was busy giving away hong baos. And of course I'm grateful that my husband and I are in a position to give money but it still stings, not gonna lie. Especially since we are on a finishing stage of our new home, money is tight these days. But I'm not going to dive into that sensitive topic.

I had a tiring weekend out of town for an aunt' birthday and can't wait for it to be a weekend once again so I can just chill out and relax. I did spend a good time surrounded by distant relatives and seeing my cutie patootie niece who has grown up so much since the last I saw her is the best. Well, how can we not talk about family when family is all we got, right?

A few days ago, we're Chinese ethnic celebrated our Chinese New Year and those two sentences are pretty much being thrown out everytime we meet our family member. Most of us wear qipao or cheongsam (Chinese traditional outfit) to our family gathering (we're Asians hold family values very highly) but anything red is expected. We love reds on CNY because we believe the devils are afraid of this bright vibrant color. Red also often symbolize celebration in Chinese culture.
Along with the new blunt bangs, I acquired a new nickname as a "doll". I don't like labeling people, but this one is actually flattering! One of my dream was to married Ken cause he has the most perfect hair and teeth and always seems oh-so-fashionable.
Since Chinese New Year is just around the corner, I would like to say Happy Chinese New Year to all who celebrates it. May all of us have a prosperous year ahead. Gong Xi Fat Choy!
I will be spending the Lunar New Year with my big family in Jakarta. We don't pray to the ancestors anymore but we really love the tradition of gathering in one of the eldest son in the family (since my grandparents are gone, except for my adorable grandma from my mom's side :)) and just catching up on everything.
